Department of Parks and Wildlife would like to inform everyone that the decision has been made to delay the opening of Purnululu National Park to 9 April. This is due to the large amounts of rainfall over the past few weeks and the coming expected rain. We have had to delay the grading and repairs to the entry and internal roads until it is drier. They will be reassessing this open date closer to the time and will let everyone know if there will be a further delay to the opening.
Parks and Wildlife are currently taking online campground bookings for Walardi and Kurrajong from 1 May. They will open online bookings for April once they know the opening date. DPAW will be transitioning this year to online bookings only for their campgrounds, with the intention of having limited Wi-Fi access to visitors to book at the Purnululu visitor centre on their own devices. There is also Optus signal at the visitors centre and Walardi and Kurrajong campgrounds. Telstra is also available at the turnoff from the highway.
This year Parks and Wildlife will be building a new visitors centre, close to the current one. There may be some traffic and pedestrian redirecting while the construction is happening, but the old visitors centre will still be open as per a usual season.
